EPC Requirements UK 2026

Everything landlords in Corby need to know about EPC ratings, compliance rules and upcoming changes.

What is an EPC?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) measures how energy efficient a property is. Ratings go from A (best) to G (worst).

All rental properties in Corby and across England must have a valid EPC before being marketed.

Current EPC Requirements

  • Minimum EPC rating: E
  • Valid for 10 years
  • Required before marketing
  • Must be given to tenants

Future EPC Changes (EPC C)

The government is proposing that rental properties may need to reach EPC rating C in future.

This is NOT yet law, but landlords should prepare early.

For Corby landlords, this means:

  • Upgrading insulation
  • Improving heating systems
  • Replacing inefficient boilers
  • Installing energy-efficient lighting

Why EPC Matters for Corby Landlords

Energy efficiency is becoming a major factor in tenant demand and property value.

  • Higher EPC = higher rental appeal
  • Lower bills = better tenant retention
  • Future-proofing against regulation

What You Should Do Now

  • Check your EPC rating
  • Plan upgrades early
  • Budget for improvements
  • Stay ahead of legislation
